Physician associate

PAs are a relatively new member of the clinical team, seen as complementary to GPs, rather than a substitute, taking on certain areas of workload and helping to free GPs to focus on the more complex patient cases. PAs have a generalist medical education and work alongside doctors providing medical care in both GP surgeries and hospitals. We can work autonomously, but always under the supervision of a fully trained and experienced doctor. Currently, PAs are not able to prescribe, order X-rays or CT scans but this can be done under a supervising doctor. More information can be found on the Faculty of Physician Associates website.
